This position is the primary driver in the creation and execution of the innovation strategy. The Senior Brand Manager-Innovation is focused on identifying and analyzing marketplace and category trends, defining product portfolio white space opportunities and monitoring competitive activity to create the Innovation strategy and pipeline.  This is a marketing position focused on maintaining and growing category market share through new platform and strategic line extension efforts.  The primary responsibility is to create a 3-5 year pipeline of new products to achieve both annual and long range operating plan objectives.  This role has day-to-day responsibility for executing against all product development activity and therefore should be able to clearly and concisely communicate objectives and be able to lead teams that include Insights, R&D, Packaging, Culinary, Sensory, Analytics, QA, Sales, Finance, Supply Chain, Legal/Regulatory, Plant Operations and Customer Marketing functional support. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the innovation pipeline and innovation strategies feeding the long range and annual plans reflecting overall corporate goals
  • Lead development and execution of product and packaging innovation plans including concept development, feasibility validation, product and packaging R&D, business proposal and approval, project execution, customer sell in and tracking of in-market performance
  • Creatively identify opportunity areas for growth by effectively using consumption data, market research and competitive intelligence
  • Develop meaningful consumer positioning for all innovation product lines that creates added value versus competitive and effectively communicate product advantages to consumers
  • Work collaboratively with Insights and R&D to identify new ideas, build research and development plans, screen ideas and food and optimize our innovation offerings to meet consumer needs and have a clear POD vs. our competitors.
  • Manages project teams to ensure on-time delivery of new products to marketplace
  • Work hand-in-hand with the sales organization to ensure our strategies and innovation offerings will be successful in market 
  • Work closely with operations to assess existing and new assets and identify potential applications for innovation
  • Direct innovation agencies and other suppliers in the development and implementation of marketing strategies and programs

Experience Required:

Qualifications:

    • An MBA or equivalent education/experience is required
    • 5-7 years CPG brand management experience in developing innovation preferred
    • Demonstrated experience managing direct reports
    • Demonstrated strength in strategic thinking with a consumer lens is required
    • Strong financial acumen
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
    • Ability to work and excel as a project leader in a fast paced, changing environment
    • Strong written and verbal communication including presentation skills
    • Proficient in MS Office: Excel, Word and PowerPoint
    • Ability to travel as required for: customer/plant visits, sales meetings, conferences and trade events
